Etiquette to Observe When Sitting On the Poker Table
Poker is a game that requires a lot of concentration on the part of the player. When playing poker, losing focus or not paying attention for even 2 seconds may be the difference between winning big and losing big. As such, it’s important that at all times, poker players keep their attention at the very best levels. To help players keep their concentration, there are some etiquettes that all poker players sitting on the table have to observe. If you don’t know these etiquettes, worry not as we have you covered. Just remember to check the games here (of poker) after going through the article so that you put what you learnt into practice.
Politeness Is Key
When sitting on the poker table, you must at all times be courteous and polite. You also need to show every player sitting on the table enough respect. There are different things that you can do to show your politeness. Some of these include not swearing during play as this might make other players to lose focus, you also need not scratch the table as this might distract other players, and try not to use your voice but rather your brain only. If you have ever sat or when you will sit on a poker table with a player who does the above, you will realise just how irritating these acts are.
Pay Attention
As stated before, attention is key when playing poker. As such, you need to ensure that you are attentive at all times and that you do not partake in acts that will distract other players. When sitting on the poker table, avoid at all costs plugging in earphones (as most players nowadays do). If it’s too hard for you to dump your earphones even when sitting on the poker table, at least just put one earphone in and unplug the other. The danger of using earphones is that it affects your attention and you might not hear the calls of other players. Asking the opponent to repeat his call affects the flow of the game and failing to act according to the call made by the previous player (as you would not have heard it) will, in turn, lead you to lose lots of money.
Be Quick
Poker is a game that requires you to use your brain, as such, you will need to think before making some decisions. However, be that as it may, thinking does not mean overthinking. You need not take 5 minutes thinking about your next move. Doing this will affect the flow of the game while at the same time forcing the opponents to lose their concentration levels. It’s therefore imperative that you think fast and act quickly when playing poker. Things to avoid when sitting on the poker table include doing a number of things at the same time such as eating a meal. It’s also important that you put your phone away till you finish your gaming session, for those few moments that you are playing, it’s also important to stop talking to the waitress and if there is a television nearby, take your eyes off the set.
